In House School Trip
Reptile Wrangler provides an exciting, interactive and educational animal program to work with the schedules of your school. This program allows for class rotations through a designated area by classrooms or grades. Ideal class sizes are 25-35 students. We can also perform for larger groups in the auditorium, cafeteria or gym as long as you provide a microphone and speakers.
We offer three styles of programs:
A stage show where generally six animals are lined up on the stage in wicker baskets or carriers. I bring them out one at a time, and talk about the animal species, where it comes from, its behaviors, and diet. We encourage questions at the end of each animals “talk,” and if class numbers are less than 30 kids, to touch a few of the animals when I come over to where they are sitting in either one long semicircle or two rows seated three feet apart to provide me a space to walk through.
Three table display (school provides the tables). This is a cool live animal display using clear plastic containers and animal crates. We bring about nine critters including snakes, lizards, turtles, alligator and a few bugs for the kids to see. They love to see our awesome rock, mineral, and fossil collection that includes a large alligator skull!
This format allows for rotations during STEM nights when the time period is only 15-20 minutes in length per activity. Guests walk past the display, then congregate in chairs or stand on the other side of the room while I handle a few of the creatures. Questions are encouraged. If the atmosphere is right, I’ll even tell a tale or two about being bitten by a gator or almost crushed by a python! Touching is permitted during this time for groups of 40 kids or less. If more than 40 kids are present, touching is allowed for the last animal (usually a large python or 3′ long alligator) as they depart.
Walkabout is more for Field Day where I carry an assortment of animals around for 10-15 minutes allowing folks to touch them and answer questions.
